Last week some Knight's Walk residents visited St Oswalds- recently completed new homes in Lambeth. This development is not a project by any of the Development Management Team but Catherine, Resident Engagement Lead for Knight's Walk, joined residents on the visit to get their feedback on what they did/did not like about the scheme.
Catherine collected feedback from residents to share with the design team; when designing it is just as useful to know the things that people do not want to see as those that they do so this feedback will help inform the designs for Knight's Walk.
While residents appreciated the quality of some of the workmanship inside the homes and that the building was built from brick there was concern about having shared kitchen and living spaces and people would like to be able to make some choices about their kitchen and bathroom fittings. Choice over internal fittings is addressed within Lambeth's design principles which you can read here.
The shape of the site that these homes were built on meant that not all the rooms are square and therefore while residents felt some rooms were a good size others felt a bit awkward.
We look forward to gathering more feedback from residents and beginning to assemble a residents' brief over the coming months starting with the next Resident Engagement Panel meeting on the 6th June.
We will also be arranging and advertising further study trips to see other new homes that have been created in London.
