If a leaseholder property is currently overcrowded (e.g. family living in 1 bedroom flat), can they request shared equity in a 2 bedroom flat in the new development?

It depends on the circumstances of the individual household and what share of the equity they can afford. They could also consider the shared ownership option, where they may be better able to afford a larger property.
